2010 Chevrolet Equinox; direct injected with 30 mpg!

If General Motors is still with us for the 2010 model year, the Chevrolet Equinox will be getting a thorough makeover particularly in the engine compartment. The new Equinox gets an all-new look in keeping with other recent Chevrolets including the obligatory dual-port grille. Dimensionally, the Equinox keeps the same 112.5 inch wheelbase and body measurements are all within an inch of the current model. On the inside, the dash gets a dual cockpit look similar to the Malibu and Traverse as well as all the usual electronic bits now found in new cars such as BlueTooth, USB audio input and rear view camera.

The best stuff, though, is underhood where a new direct injected version of the 2.4L EcoTec four replaces the ancient 3.4L V6. Mileage with the four cylinder/6-speed automatic combo goes from 17/24 mpg to an estimated 21/30 mpg. A new 3.0L direct injected V6 replaces the port injected 3.6L formerly offered in the Sport. The V6 improves mileage from 17/24 mpg to 18/25 mpg. All versions of the new Equinox get electric power steering and six speed automatic transmissions for 2010.

Honda working up factory V-Twin chopper

Honda may be a bit behind the latest two-wheeled trends with its upcoming factory chopper motorcycle. The raked-out style had its heyday a couple of years ago with more functional styles making a big comeback as of late, but there is still a market for long, low bikes with fat rear rubber. Just ask Harley and Victory. Interestingly, Honda’s production Fury chopper reportedly uses a rather small 1300cc fuel injected V-Twin engine, which we would assume is a descendant of the smaller-displacement VTX line. Either it’s air-cooled or Honda’s engineers have done an admirable job of hiding the radiator and associated plumbing. We’ve also been told to expect a shaft drive, hidden rear shock, 200mm rear tire and the bare minimum number of badges. Add in Honda’s stellar reliability and this looks like a winner… five years ago. Price? Rumored to be around $13,000, which would make this a major bargain compared to other factory choppers. Maybe there’s something to this new bike after all.

2010 Ford Fusion revealed with new face, new engines and new six-speed transmission

We love mid-size sedans if for no other reason than buyers benefit from the incredibly high level of competition between each player in the segment, and Ford’s just-revealed 2010 Fusion appears ready to compete. We only have one image, but it shows the Fusion’s new face with an even bigger three-bar grille, nicely contoured hood, angry-eye headlights and a sharply redesigned lower bumper. There’s also a new engine lineup with three mills to choose from. The first is an all-new Duratec 2.5L four-cylinder with 174 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque (up 14 hp/16 lb-ft from prior 2.3L). The second is a reworked version of the current 3.0L V6 with 19 more horsepower for a total of 240 hp and 228 lb-ft of torque. And finally Ford will be offering the Fusion with its new 3.5L V6 for 2010, which will make a class competitive 263 hp and 249 lb-ft of torque. The best part? All three engines will be paired with Ford’s 6F35 six-speed automatic transmission.

Ford hasn’t revealed fuel economy numbers yet, but says the four-cylinder’s fuel economy will go up a full 10% and the sixes between 4-6% thanks in large part to the new tranny. This will also be the year Ford introduces the Fusion Hybrid and Mercury Milan Hybrid, which will feature the previously announced SmartGauge and can travel up to 47 mph in all-electric mode with a range of more than 700 miles. Unfortunately, it appears that the 2010 Fusion won’t be available with any turbocharged, direct-inject EcoBoost powertrains, but the new engines and transmission, along with the nose job, are a big step forward for Ford’s already competitive Fusion.

Carbon Motors releases first video of E7 cop car and in-car gadgets

Law enforcement officers have more reasons to be excited with Carbon Motors release of a few more images and a video of its purpose-built Police car. The E7, as it is currently known, looks to be much more capable than the thousands of Crown Vics, Impalas and Chargers currently roaming our streets due to its rather amazing list of specifications and gadgetry. Included are a diesel engine capable of accelerating to 65 in under 7-seconds, composite body panels attached to an aluminum structure, 360-degree built-in police-duty LED lights, suicide rear doors with hose-out passenger compartment and a separate front compartment with plenty of techno-goodies. Radar, LoJack, an automatic license plate recognition system, radiation and biological threat detectors and Carbon’s exclusive On-board Rapid Command Architecture (ORCA) which features a large touch-screen display plus keyboard (see above), are all included. We think that this sucker should get the job done rather nicely.
